Cradle Mt - Lake St Clair National Park

PENCIL PINE

Pencil Pine is an accommodation village at the northern entrance to the Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park.  There is a wide range of accommodation options from four star to cabins and camping available.  There is a mini supermarket and fuel is available.  Prices can be considerably higher than in the cities and opening hours are restricted.  It is strongly recommended to book accommodation before arriving.  There are helicopters providing scenic flights of the area daily all year round from $AUD150.  A visit to the Wilderness Gallery at the Cradle Mountain Chateau is highly recommended.

There are many beautiful and diverse walks from 20 minutes to a full day from the village and nearby Waldheim and Dove Lake.  There is an excellent Visitor and Interpretation Centre just inside the Park.  There is a short Myrtle Forest walk from within the Centre which includes a viewing platform overlooking Pencil Pine Falls below left.

The Enchanted Forest Walk

The cascade above has been photographed from the bridge on the Dove Lake road near the Cradle Valley Visitors Centre. The bridge is at the start of 'The Enchanted Forest' walk.  A short 20 minute return walk from Cradle Valley Lodge.  Most of the walk is suitable for the disabled.

LEFT: Pencil Pine Falls above are only a 100 metres downstream from the bridge at the entrance to the Cradle Mountain National Park.
