Cradle Mountain can be accessed from Devonport through Fourth and Wilmot.
From Launceston either head to Forth via Devonport or turn of just before
Elizabeth Town 10 kilometres past Deloraine. The route is well
signposted and passes through Sheffield - the town of murals. There
are two routes from Sheffield which meet at the top of the Cethana Gorge.
The route west of Sheffield passes the very interesting Tazmazia.
Cradle can also be accessed from Burnie through Ridgley. Follow Mount
Street south. There is also a scenic route from Somerest a suburb west
of Burnie. This trip passes through the Hellyer Gorge and also passes
by the pretty Wandle Falls. See the 'ROAD TO CRADLE' page.
The
accommodation village for Cradle Mountain is Pencil Pine. A wide
selection of accommodation is available. There are 2 visitors centres.
The first one is encountered on the left. Park passes are available
here. There is a shuttle bus from to Dove Lake on a regular basis
throughout the peak season.
The
second visitors centre is just inside the Park boundary by Pencil Pine
Creek. Many fine walks can be taken from here. It is another 8
kilometres to Dove Lake from here. Two kilometres before Dove Lake the
road to Waldheim heads off to the west. Ronny Creek car park is a
little further on towards Dove Lake. Ronny Creek is the official start
of the Overland Track. Waldheim is a short walk from here. It is
also a good starting point to walk to Crater Peak and the day walk to
Waterfall Valley.
Accommodation Huts are available at Waldheim. Booking at the Pencil
Pine Creek visitors centre.
