Pine Lake

The Great Western Tiers

About 30 kilometres south of Deloraine on the Lake Highway is Pine Lake, a small lake just a few hundred metres from the highway.  The lake has a grove of ancient Pencil Pines at each end.  The pines seem out of place in the relatively treeless rocky alpine terrain surrounding the lake.  A board walk has been built from the highway to the edge of the lake just 700 metres long.  The walk has no steps and is wheelchair friendly.  There are a few small cushion plants growing along the way.  The walk is an ideal opportunity for those unable or climb or walk long distances to experience a piece of the Tasmanian 'wilderness'.
