Mt
William National Park is about 2 1/2 hours drive from Launceston via
Scottsdale. There is also a road from Bridport to Gladstone near the
park. There are no services at all beyond Gladstone where there is a
small supermarket with fuel. There is also a country hotel.
Mt William hosts bountiful wildlife and
coastal heath along with stunning white sand beaches. There are two
settlements at each end of the park. Poole in the north and Anson's Bay
to the south. The roads from Gladstone are mostly unsealed.
Anson's Bay can be accessed from St Helen's to the south. The road is
also mostly unsealed. Eddystone Point is also accessible from Anson's
Bay.
There are good camping grounds at the three
locations with very basic facilities. Most camping grounds in Tasmania
have free electric or gas B-B-Q's. Check the National Parks and
Forestry Tasmania web sites for current information.
Note, at the time of posting this page there
was 24 hour fuel available at St Helen's (April 2006).
