WELD HILL
Mutual Valley -North Eastern Forests
The 'Arch Myrtle', Mutual
Valley.
The road into the tree is
just to the left of picture. Across the road to the left is the Tree Fern
grove below.

Notice the blue ribbon
tied around one of the ferns showing the line for clear felling the area.
We were informed that the bulldozer drive could not bring himself to destroy the
area and left the ferns in tact. The area is already affected by Myrtle
Wilt. A little more co-operation from the Forestry Industry could have
seen a very fine tourist asset developed here being only 10 or 15 minutes drive
from Weldborough!

Foresters consider this
the largest myrtle they have seen and estimate it to be about 600 years old.
Named after it's discoverer - Holger Strie in April 2004!
