Port Arthur - Historic Site

The Port Arthur penal colony was established in 1830 and Closed in 1877. Fire destroyed many of the buildings at the site.

 

Entry to the site includes access to over 30 buildings and a guided tour. There is an excellent interpretation centre.

 

There is a cafeteria and restaurant as well as a large gift shop.

     
 

 

 
     
     
     
 

A cruise of the harbour can be taken as part of a visit to the site.
