OATLANDS

The Heart of Tasmania

An hours drive north of Hobart is the historical and interesting town of Oatlands.  Another town like Richmond and Evandale, Oatlands has a wealth of old colonial building adorning its streets.  Oatlands is the unofficial "border" between the north and south of Tasmania.  If you have time it is well worth the stop.

Carrington Mill dominates the Oatlands skyline.  An old flour mill open to the public.  There is no admission charge.  A climb to the top 'floor' provides panoramic views of the town including Lake Dulverton, a good spot for a picnic.

Another 'landmark' (or landmarks) near Oatlands are the 30 hedge sculptures by the highway'  We found the sculptor trimming the hedges the day we went past.

A sample of the buildings found in the town.

The one on the bottom right (or bottom depending on your browser) is for sale. It has a very large tulip garden at the rear which is adjacent to the mill.  Call Charlie if interested (0438 541 006).

Oatlands has an excellent 9 hole golf course.  The 9th fairway.
