Mt RUFUS Circuit

LAKE ST CLAIR

7 hours - not that hard, just long!  Just short steep sections where the track reaches the mountain.  Spectacular 360 degree views.

The view from the summit of Mt Rufus looking towards Mt Olympus and the mountains of the overland track.  Shadow Lake is in the centre of the picture with Forgotten Lake to the left.  The track can be seen in the picture.  The one by the small lake heads off left and eventually comes back up the mountain from where this picture was taken.  The one to the right is the Shadow Lake circuit and heads to the right across the base of the mountain.  Like Wineglass Bay, you just want to sit here all day and look at the views.

The echidnas usually burrow for cover when you get near them. This one almost gave us a smile.

Pandani is plentiful near the base of Mt Rufus.

The Mt Rufus walk takes up to 7 hours.  The first (and last) hour and a half of the Mr Rufus circuit is fairly routine.  Not a hard walk on a very good dry track - just long!  One of the great Tasmanian walks without the need for an overnight stay.
