MT FIELD - LAKE
PEDDER
and
the Styx Valley
|
Mt
Field is better known to Tasmanian's as ski fields during the winter
months. There are many beautiful scenic attractions in the
national park as well as the nearby Styx Valley and stunning Lake Pedder further
to the west in the South West National Park. The entrance to the Mt Field National Park is just over an
hours drive from Hobart by good sealed roads.
Lake
Pedder is regarded as some of the best mountain
scenery in Australia.
Near the entrance to the park
visitors centre there is a narrow winding road that leads to the ski fields of
Mt Mawson. Along the way there are several long and short walks. The
road leads to Lake Dobson which is at the base of Mt Mawson. The road
continues on for another 2 kilometres to the ski village but is closed to public
vehicles. There is a very pretty walk around the western side of Lake
Dobson which rejoins the road. Half way up the winding road there is a
view of Platypus Pool and Seal Lake.
