The Midlands

The Heritage Highway

The drive between Launceston and Hobart takes a little over 2 hours without any stops.  However, the trip could take the best part of a day or longer if we explored the towns along the way.  The picture above is winter snow on "Big White Hill" at Lovely Banks by the Midlands Highway.  Snow can close the road for half a day or more every year or two.

From Launceston the main centres are Campbell Town, Ross, Oatlands, Jericho, Kempton and  Pontville along with a short diversion to the old town of Bothwell.  There is a diversion south of Oatlands through Colebrook, Campania and Richmond - the B31 road..
