Fluted Cape BRUNY ISLAND
Bruny Island can be described as a miniature Tasmania. Natural attractions include pristine beaches, rainforest walks as well as dramatic cliff top coastal walks.
click for larger view Sunrise from high above Fluted Cape. Just a 3/4 hour walk from Adventure Bay. Cape Raoul on the Tasman Peninsula can be seen in the distance.
Another 10 minutes north and Fluted Cape comes into view. The Neck which joining North and South Bruny can be seen in the distance.
At the start of the walk is a colony of albino wallabies. The track is fairly steep and requires a degree of fitness. I opted to do the walk in the reverse of that recommended. The track is very steep in the other direction, however the base of the Cape is reached in about 20 minutes after an easy flat walk along the shore.
We will add more on Bruny Island as time permits. An overnight stay is recommended with longer needed if wanting to undertake some of the longer walks on the island. A vehicular ferry operates five trips a day and can carry up to 75 cars. |
