The Far North West

DIP FALLS

Ten kilometres east of the Stanley turn off is a road heading south to the Dip River Forest reserve. The Dip Falls are 26 kilometres from the junction on a good sealed road apart for the last few kilometres which is gravel. A car park by the road is virtually on top of the falls. There are well appointed picnic and rest room facilities - no power. A steep set of steps descends to the bottom of these imposing falls. There are some interesting very short walks in the area. The picture below on the right was taken after heavy rain. It took a 'bush bash' to the bottom of the gorge on the southern side of the falls. The viewing platform is on the top right.

on the Dip Falls Road

The road continues on and a viewing platform is on the opposite side of the river suitable for the disabled. Opposite the main car park is a 50 metre walk to some old abandoned logging machinery.

Rainforest looking down stream from the falls. On the right is a sprawling myrtle taking the shape of a lobster or spider. The short 50 metre track to the tree is not marked. After crossing the bridge across the river, the road leads to the 'big tree'. Only a kilometre. Just after the road takes a left turn the track to the tree is on the left.

A few kilometres before the falls is a diversion to a popular picnic area - Black River. 6 kilometres.
