Cygnet is an interesting town
on the western side of the Channel area near the mouth of the Huon River.
There are several craft
galleries and places to dine. We tried the pies at the Double Delight Bakery
at the southern end of the town - superb.
There is also a public golf
course and a popular caravan park.
The road north from the town
heads towards Huonville. There is an alternate drive to the west around the
shores of the Huon River. Also a pleasant diversion to Drip Beach at the
southern end of the drive.
Camping at the caravan park
High in the hills above Cygnet
to the west and Woodbridge to the east is the Hartz View Vineyard. There are
superb views to the west towards the Hartz Mountains. There is also an
historical row of 'Picker's Huts' which were used by fruit pickers when the
Channel and Huon districts were dominated with apple orchards. The vineyard
also hosts a fine restaurant.
