Castra Falls Circuit

Gaunts Road, Nietta

Headed back to the Castra Rivulet to complete the circuit walk which passes by 3 waterfalls along the way. We first visited this area ten years ago. At the time the track was very overgrown and impassable. We only managed to get to Silver Falls which are only about 10 minutes walk from the car park. The track commences a few kilometres down Gaunts Road which is found on the way to Leven Canyon from Ulverstone. The track has been cleared by a group of volunteer locals for whom we are very thankful. A very pretty loop walk. Be warned, the track is quite steep when venturing down side tracks to two the falls.  The loop track finishes about 200 metres further down Gaunts Road.

Step Falls. These falls are only a 15 minute walk from the end of the walk described above. An easy walk.

The lower part of Castra Falls. 30 minutes walk below Step Falls. A steep climb down from the main track.

Silver Falls above is only a few minutes from the start of  the walk. A fairly steep drop to the bottom of the falls. I took another hour to walk to Castra Falls. Mostly a fairly easy circuit walk with fairly difficult steep sections. Note the official maps show Silver Falls and Castra Falls the other way around. A sign nearby indicates the falls above as Silver Falls. A superb rainforest walk.

Gaunts Road continues on for a few more kilometres and emerges from the forest to beautiful farm land.
