Bridport is
located on the shores of Anderson Bay and is a popular holiday resort town for
Tasmanians. There are several small 'boutique' safe beaches along the
coast. The beach just to the east of the town is cut off by the Brid river, making
direct access only by wading or swimming the river. The eastern end of the
course is bounded by the Great Forester River. Mt Horror dominates the
skyline to the east! Barnbougle Dunes is a farming property just east of the river and is separated
from the bay by towering sand dunes. A perfect setting for a golf course.
The Tom Oaks designed course is difficult to compare with other courses in
Australia. It is in a category of it's own akin to the great links
courses of the United Kingdom.
It's almost perfect. Perhaps it is! It is a work of art - a
masterpiece!
The course is
very user friendly - although it is very intimidating the first time you play
it! You tend to forget about the golf and simply admire the golf course
and the scenery! Most fairways are very wide and of a a sensible length
for the average golfer. Hovever, once you stray off the fairway the ball
is usually lost.
