The "Back" Road to Cradle

BURNIE TO CRADLE

Waratah Falls in the centre of the town of Waratah.  Only a few kilometres from the Murchison Hwy about half way between Burnie and Cradle Mountain.  The road through Waratah continues on to Savage River, an iron ore mining town.  The road then continues on to the small hamlet of Corinna by the majestic Pieman River.

A punt ferries vehicles across the river here where the road continues to the west coast.  A cruise can be taken down the river and back.  The views at the Pieman Heads a superb if you have the time to walk for about an hour or two.

Miners cottage - part of the small but interesting museum in the town.  The image on the right are of the colourful Mt Bischof, on the edge of the town.  A mine closed in 1947.

Waratah has a very good caravan park.
